A zebra may not be a menacing animal nor may it look really dangerous. But with rumors announcing the Google Zebra Update, many companies and individuals may cringe at the mention of zebra. The Zebra update is directly opposed to social marketing; be it by individuals or companies. It will target social networking sites like Facebook, twitter, Google+ and even Pinterest pages – anything that supports SEO marketing.
The earlier release by Google like the Google Panda in 2011 was used to distinguish between low and high rank content on on-site basis. In 2012, its updated Google Penguin update went a notch higher by targeting even off-site publishes. Now the Google Zebra is supposed to bring the following effects:
- If there are too may re-tweets including a certain keyword or is centered on a certain link, with the introduction of the zebra update, all the re-tweets may have to be bade a goodbye.
- Any shares on Google+ which may seem to be spam or include a brand too many times could be forbidden.
- Updates on Facebook which have a large amount of shares and is not from the same industry may seem to be a publicizing content feed. Such shares would no longer be allowed.
- Pinterest pages are used by companies and brand for gaining popularity and SEO benefit. These kinds of Pinterest pages may be in trouble too.
Apart from the above mentioned criteria, there are rumors that any pages or websites having a certain selection of keywords would be scrapped. The warning signal may be able to save some pages by reviewing its content. The keywords include:
