The iPhone 5 has been out in the United States and Europe now for a couple of months, and it’s sold very well. Apple never have a problem with moving huge amounts of their stock to American and European customers. This month though, the iPhone 5 is finally available to pre-order in China.

Already, China’s 2nd biggest carrier (China Unicom) took over 100,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 5 device by 4PM local time on the first day of pre-orders in China. So Apple are doing just as well over in China as they did here in the US and across Europe.

China Unicom will officially launch the new iPhone 5 on the 14th of December, ensuring they deliver on their earlier promise of bringing the iPhone 5 to their customers by the end of the year.

It has been reported that a lot of the early buyers were very happy with the easy reservation process, not to mention the iPhone 5 itself. The pre-order process requires customers to fill in their name, identity card number and phone number, then select the capacity and colour of the device they want. Shipping is free, which is a nice bonus.

China Unicom will be selling the iPhone 5 from $850 (for the 16GB version) according to The Wall Street Journal.

Strangely enough, China Mobile – China’s biggest telecoms provider is still without iPhone products. Apple have been in talks with China Telecom for several years about carrying the iPhone, but the two companies have never been able to reach an agreement. It’s been reported that the carrier is seeking a cut of Apple Store revenue in exchange for selling the phone, an idea which Apple are clearly not going for.

China Mobile currently has almost 700 million customers, China Unicom has 230 million and China Telecom has just 152 million (according to stats from Reuters).

China made up around 15% ($23.8 BILLION) of Apple’s total revenue for the latest fiscal year, and this number is going to get bigger thanks to the iPhone 5, iPad Mini and fourth generation iPad all going on sale in China in the next couple of weeks.

As well as China, the iPhone 5 is going to be hitting another 54 countries this month including:

December 7th: South Korea

December 14th: Albania, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Ecuador, Grenada, Indonesia, Israel, Jamaica, Jordan, Kuwait, Macedonia, Malaysia, Moldova, Montenegro, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.

December 21st: Barbados, Botswana, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Egypt, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St.Vincent & the Grenadines, Tunisia, Uganda and Vietnam.

The iPhone 5 is already available in 47 countries, so by the end of December this list will have grown to 102 countries, making this the quickest rollout of any iPhone device to-date.

So, if you’ve been craving for an iPhone 5 but haven’t been able to get your hands on one due to lack of availability in your country, then you will be pleased with this news as availability is sure to go up with these extra 55 countries carrying the device.
