After the launch of Samsung Grand 2, a lot of speculations have been going on regarding the new and improved variant of it. This version, called Galaxy Grand Neo has officially been called Samsung Galaxy Grand Lite. The device is expected to launch in the 7th week of year 2014, i.e. between 10tha and 16th February. The phone will be introduced in the European market, in Belgium. The price, which was earlier speculated to be 300 euros, inclusive of taxes, is being quoted by recent reports as 299 euros, which is roughly $405, or Rs. 25,000. This makes the smart-phone fit into the mid-range segment.
Internal documents containing the specifications regarding the configuration of the phone were recently leaked online. If such documents are to be believed, then the phone will allegedly run on the Jelly Bean OS of Android 4.2, with Samsung’s TouchWiz on top. It the phone is likely to be powered by Quad-core Cortex A7 processor of 1.2 GHz with unspecified chipset, and also 1 GB RAM. It has further been indicated by the specification list about the yet-t0-be-released phone that it has two cameras, one at the front and the other at the back. The front-facing camera is a VGA one, while the rear one is a 5 MP/ 720 P camera and has a LED flash. The phone is likely to have an internal memory of 8 GB, and will support expansion of storage memory. Its basic connectivity options will include Bluetooth, along with Wi Fi and Wi Fi Direct. The phone will support 3G. Its satellite service support will have options of GPS/AGPS and GLONASS. It will have Micro-USB for the additional connectivity with other devices. The Phone is rumoured to have a screen dimension of 143.7×77.1×9.6 mm, something to be boastful of. It is basically approximately a 5” screen. However, it is a WVGA screen with 187 ppi, which is a let-down in comparison to other smart-phones of similar range. The device will also be packed with 2100 mAh battery. This will enable the continuous and uninterrupted use of the phone without the battery dying on the user frequently, and hence dismissing the common complaint regarding the battery back-up of Samsung phones. The phone will also provide the user to choose the option to use one or two SIM cards i.e. it supports optional Dual-SIM usage.
The configuration states that the phone is a step up by the Korea-based company in its production of lower range smartphones. However, its price places it in competition with smartphones that are of much better configuration and capability. It is only a matter of time for the wait to end, to find out whether the phone has any other unique feature to offer.
For the time being, Samsung has not confirmed or denied any of the statements or speculations regarding the details of the Galaxy Grand Neo. It has only officially declared that the device will be named Grand Lite, and has given a tentative price range of Rs. 22,900-24,900 in the Indian market.
